Travellers+on+Antarctic+cruise+holidays+'are+tourist+ambassadors'+

The Antarctic is not, perhaps, your usual holiday hotspot but experts are claiming that a visit to this majestic land will not only be the journey of a lifetime but could help save the environment.

Particularly attractive to adventurers are Antarctic cruise holidays which allow holidaymakers to witness the beauty of the white continent from the luxury of a boat.

Wildlife enthusiasts are also drawn to the globe's southernmost region to see animals such as penguins, blue whales, orcas and fur seals.

Last month, those on Antarctic holidays were labelled "tourist ambassadors" by one lecturer at the University of Nottingham - who believes that promoting travel to the continent will help to sustain it.

Dr Robert Lambert, who specialises in the relationship between tourism and nature, said: "Few people get the opportunity to visit this extraordinary place, and those who experience it first hand return home with a powerful sense of wonder and concern for the myriad threats that it faces.

"I believe there's a huge sense of goodwill for the region that could be passed on by these tourist ambassadors to the rest of society."ADNFCR-1391-ID-18518506-ADNFCR
