Buenos Aires is to host one of the world's biggest tango festivals next month, as the rhythmic sounds of the South American beat flood the streets of the capital.
Argentina's premier city is home to the Buenos Aires Tango Festival every year in late February and early March, with thousands of couples and families flocking to the area to join in the romantic and cultural displays.
Top tango artists from across the country and around the world descend on the city, organised by the Argentine ministry of culture, which makes sure the extravagant and sensuous dance celebrates its roots in the South American city that created it.
Beginners can strut the streets with special classes laid on for the uninitiated, while more experienced dancers and professionals can perform in masterclasses and on stages throughout Buenos Aires all for free.
The finals of the Metropolitan Ballroom Tango Championships are also held at the climax of the festival, offering another opportunity to see the professionals in action.
