A new site dedicated to wildlife research has been opened in the Qinghai region of China.
According to a representative from the Hol Xil Natural Reserve Administration, the centre is the highest in the country, located at an altitude of 4,600 metres, Xinhua reports.
The Institute of Zoology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the administration collaborated to set up the research site.
It is hoped that its location will mean improved infrastructure, which will in turn facilitate the work of the scientists based at the centre.
"The site is expected to attract more researchers to the area with its better technical and logistic support," the administration told Xinhua.
CAS scientists have been working in the region for the last three years, the website reported, focusing on the protection of the rare Tibetan antelope, among other species.
Separately, a panda in captivity in Sichuan province gave birth to two cubs recently, having lived through the devastating earthquake earlier this year.
