The South American nation of Ecuador, on the Pacific coast, has long been a favourite of many travellers looking for something different from their usual trip.
One travel writer at the Times and a friend took a break to the country, and claimed that although many may simply head there to go to the Galapagos, the country itself offers some stunning attractions.
From its volcanoes, to its rainforests and "stunning beaches", Sathnam Sanghera said that Ecuador has "a lot going for it".
The two used their rural and rustic haciendas as a base and took to see some of the country's more exciting spots, dined with aristocrats and took to horse back across the equatorial country.
Ms Sanghera said in her article in the Times: "The problem with foreign holidays it that they can so often make you feel trapped by the obligation to visit certain places, do certain things and absorb half your holiday with admin and organisation. But I didn't feel like this in Ecuador at all."
Travellers and holidaymakers looking for a touch of luxury in rural surroundings should try Ecuador for something different.
