India is enjoying a boom period in its eco-tourism industry with an increasing number of travellers visiting the country, it has been reported.
Eco-tourists are being drawn to India due to the fact that the country has marketed itself as an attractive ecological destination and many international airlines now incorporate regular flights into New Delhi airport.
"There's the history and the spirituality that everyone knows about and then there's more. We now have business travellers, medical travellers, luxury travellers and adventure tourism," said Leena Nandan, a joint secretary in the Tourism Ministry.
With a variety of wildlife sanctuaries such as the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Corbett National Park plus Goa's beautiful beaches as well as the Himalayas, eco-tourists are spoiled for choice in India.
Speaking about India, Keith Lotman, an American tourist, said: "I have about a 100 different places that I'd like to visit.
"100 different kinds of experiences. It's very different from any place I've traveled to before. Culturally very different."
Around five million American tourists visited India in 2007, nearly double than in 2000, according to India's Tourism Ministry.
