Travellers seeking inspiring landscapes and magnificent scenery from their China holiday can look no further than the popular destination of Taihu Lake, it has been said.

Located in the lower region of the Yangtze River delta and crossing the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang, the famous scenic spot is the third largest freshwater lake in China, covering an area of 2250 square kilometres.

With its panoramas of natural scenery, architecture, historic ruins and cultural richness, Taihu Lake has something special to offer everyone who is lucky enough to visit.

Seafood lovers will be particularly drawn to the destination for the chance to taste what's famously referred to as 'Taihu Lake Three Whites' - white shrimp, whitebait and whitefish.

When you're not tasting the local delicacies or taking in the natural beauty of the lake and its many scattered islets, historic sites to visit include the Grand Canal of the Sui Dynasty.

In October, tourists can witness the Taihu Lake Golden Autumn Food Festival which marries local cuisine in culture.
