A photographer has spoken about his experiences in the Antarctic, praising its "amazing abundance of diverse wildlife" and "unspoilt pristine beauty".
Writing in the Times newspaper, Gareth Jenkins from north Wales said that he managed to take numerous spectacular photographs while visiting the area.
After travelling to Egypt, Peru, France, Italy, Hawaii and the South Pacific Islands, he headed off for a 14 day Antarctic cruise, which he insisted was the most awe-inspiring of all his journeys.
"The Antarctic itself was inspiring in every way you could possibly imagine with its amazing abundance of diverse wildlife and landscapes which awe with its scale and unspoilt pristine beauty," he wrote.
He added that among the animals and birds he spotted on his travels were Leopard Seals, Skuas and Southern Giant Petrels.
In the water, Jenkins also observed Humpback Wales and huge Elephant Seals but said that of all the creatures, the penguins were the most "astonishing".
Summing up, the photographer said that there is "nothing to compare to the sheer scale and beauty of the landscapes of the Antarctic Peninsula" adding that the Antarctic "truly is the last unspoilt landscape".
